--Kaitlyn Butler, age 8My piano teacher at the Champaign School of Music is a really good teacher to me. My teacher is really nice and makes the lessons fun. I like the songs she picks out for me to practice and to play at recitals. I like the recitals she has and the opportunity to hear other kids play their music. I like when my teacher gives out rewards and it's a great time for me. I like practicing the songs and the theory that my teacher picks out helps me know about piano. My teacher wants me to keep going and I will.
Studio Classes (Composition/Theory, History, Performance)
These fun, but essential classes support your private or group instrumental lessons. They help you understand the music you're learning in private lessons in many different ways. With better understanding comes more enjoyment, improved playing skills and increased motivation to practice and continue learning. Additionally these classes also give you an opportunity to explore a wider variety of musical interests and learn from other experts.
Most music students don't have the opportunity to take classes like these until they're in college. We're really pleased to be able to offer Champaign School of Music's students age appropriate music classes that will support their private lessons and enhance their learning.
Theory/Composition
Learn how to write and improvise your own music through understanding the "theory" behind it. Not only will you learn how to create your own music, you will begin to understand how the music your playing in private lessons is created. This will lead to faster learning, better playing and a lot more fun!
Music History
From Baroque to Boogie, Bach to Beattles, Renaissance to Regae. Learn how your favorite music got its start. In addition to learning where all your favorite music came from, you'll also learn how its related to the music your playing in your private lesson. Who knows, maybe that phrase in the new Britteny Spears or Andrea Boccelli song came straight from Bach!
Performance Practice
Learn skills that will take you from Practice to Performance with ease, grace, and style. Did you know that there are some simple, reliable activities you can do to make performing enjoyable, fun, and rewarding? Do you want to know how Yo Yo Ma or Bob Dillon make it look so easy? This class is recommended for all students who intend to perform in CSM's Concerts, Recitals and Music Get Togethers.
Classes meet for 50 minutes on alternating Saturdays through out CSM's school year. You may join at the beginning of any month. Contact us to join. See the Calendar for schedule.
